Manage Product Categories
Category Management is a way to arrange products in a hierarchy. This module has been revamped to a systematic user interface to provide an understandable look and feel, quick loading and easy navigation. With the help of Category Management, it is easier to create and manage different categories and attributes of products. You can directly edit the name of a Category or Ref code by double-clicking the respective values and finding the product count against respective categories.
To edit Categories, you will need to:
- Login to ACP
- Navigate to Dashboard and Setup
- Click on Category Management
A list of existing categories will appear. You can search different categories from the search box. You can perform the following actions to the given categories:
- Add Subcategory - By clicking on + under Actions, you can add a new subcategory.
- Edit - Edit the given category and its components.
- Attribute - You can create new attributes of the specified category. To create a new attribute, you will have to fill in Ref code, Name, Group and Rank of the attribute.
- Delete - You can delete the listed category as well, including its subcategories.
After all the changes are made, click on Save to save changes.
Use Cases
There are many ways in which you can have categories in your webstore.
- If you have a category named under Apparels and Garments then all the apparels and garments are supposed to come under it.
- If a category is named as Trousers, then all the trousers, without any gender diversification will come under Trousers.
Note: You can have more than one product under every category and one product can be used in multiple categories as well.
How to create a new Root Category?
Click on Add New Root Category given at the top right corner of the page. A new space will appear at the end of the list of categories. You can type in the new root category there and it will be created. Click on Save to save it. You can further add subcategories to it and add a new ref. code as well.
How does Attributes work?
Click on Add New Attribute to add a new attribute. A popup will appear in which you will have to fill in details like:
- Ref Code - Add a desired reference code regarding the root category.
- Name - Name the attribute.
- Group - Name the group under which this attribute will perform.
- Rank - Rank the attribute in the box given.
- Description - Add a description in a line or two, if needed.
- Data type - select one of String or Numeric data type from the drop down.
- No. Of Columns - Select the number of columns that you prefer from the drop down.
Click on Update in order to save it and Cancel to discard.
